Madariaga, Pedro (ca. 1537-post. 1582)

Vida

Pedro de Madariaga nació en Arratia (Vizcaya) hacia 1537. La elevada posición social de su familia le permitió iniciar sus estudios de Humanidades muy joven. Pronto abandonó Vizcaya para continuar su formación en Zaragoza bajo la tutela de Juan de Icíar (ca. 1523-ca. 1572) y, probablemente, para servir como soldado, ya que viajó por España e Italia. Finalmente se instaló en Valencia, en cuya universidad ejerció la docencia. Se desconocen el lugar y la fecha de su muerte.

Pedro de Madariaga fue pionero en componer un manual de contenido caligráfico y ortográfico, el Libro subtilíssimo intitulado Honra de escriuanos. La estructura tripartita que lo divide es la siguiente: una primera parte destinada a elogiar las virtudes del aprendizaje de la escritura; una segunda que constituye el arte de escribir, cuyo método propugnaba la libertad en el trazo con el fin de agilizar el proceso de aprendizaje; y una última que contiene la propuesta ortográfica de Madariaga. Varios años más tarde, en 1777, Antonio de Sancha (1720-1790) reimprimió en Madrid esta obra con el título de Arte de escribir, ortografía de la pluma y honra de los profesores de este magisterio [...]. Por otra parte, sus Modi loquendi latino et hispano sermone pretendían servir de apoyo a la traducción del latín al español sin llegar a ser un tratado exhaustivo, pues se centran exclusivamente en los modos verbales del español y el latín.

Obra

  • Arte de escribir, ortografía de la pluma y honra de los profesores de este magisterio. Obra dividida en XII diálogos eruditos, en que además de la amenidad de las noticias, se manifiestan los verdaderos principios que deben tener todos los maestros y se da un método muy fácil para aprender a formar las letras en poco tiempo, Antonio de Sancha, Madrid, 1777.
  • Libro subtilíssimo intitulado Honra de escriuanos, Juan de Mey, Valencia, 1565.
  • Modi loquendi latino et hispano sermone, en casa de la viuda de Pedro de Huete, Valencia, 1582.

The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical recordsLatest bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.

Several times a month

We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Printing bibliographical records

All of the bibliographical recordsImprimir registro de la Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.

Printing the works

The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions

We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.

Submission of new URLs

Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website Refer a URL or make a suggestion will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
