Loiseaux, Louis Auguste (1871-1947)

Louis Marie Auguste Loiseaux fue un lingüista francés que nació en Billancourt (Picardía, Francia) el 15 de enero de 1871 y falleció en Poughkeepsie (Nueva York, Estados Unidos) el 27 de enero de 1947. Hay pocos datos sobre la vida de Loiseaux más allá de referencias a sus afiliaciones a la Asociación de Lenguas Modernas del Estado de Nueva York y a la Asociación Clásica del Medio Oeste y del Sur (CAMWS por sus siglas en inglés), a su colaboración como editor de la revista de dicha asociación, The Classical Journal, y a la docencia que impartió en Nueva York, tanto en el Barnard College, como en la Universidad de Columbia, donde fue profesor adjunto de lenguas romances y literatura.
Como instructor de lenguas romances, e interesado en las lenguas modernas, Loiseaux se especializó en la enseñanza de español. Fruto de su dedicación docente al español en las instituciones estadounidenses, nacieron sus obras más destacadas: An Elementary Grammar of the Spanish Language (1900), An elementary Spanish reader (1900) y Spanish Composition (1903).
La gramática elemental de Loiseaux es presentada en el prefacio como un elemento nuevo y perfeccionado que pueda ayudar a adquirir el español, «la única lengua que puede ser considerada rival del inglés en el continente americano». Dirigida a alumnos de instituto y universitarios, la gramática consta de treinta capítulos que abordan todas las categorías gramaticales de la lengua española. An elementary grammar es completada con un vocabulario español-inglés, e inglés-español. Del mismo año de 1900 data An elementary Spanish reader, obra que acompaña y completa la gramática. Esta obra, destinada a quienes se inician en la lectura en español, consta de diez narraciones y también contiene un vocabulario en sus páginas finales. El vocabulario de An elementary Spanish reader es diferente del de que aparece en la gramática elemental, pues consta de formas irregulares de los verbos con el objetivo de facilitar la traducción de las narraciones presentadas. La gramática elemental de la lengua española de nuestro hispanista tuvo mucho éxito y se ha seguido reimprimiendo hasta la actualidad: la última reimpresión data de abril de 2013.

The browser
Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.
Advanced filters
In addition, all of our records contain several fields. To search for a specific work by date of publication, filter by copy, printer, place of printing, etc., use the Advanced Search.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

When any category of the BVFE loads, you will see an RSS icon. Clicking on it allows you to join the feed and receive updated information for the category you have subscribed to. If your browser does not allow you to subscribe to an RSS source, you may need to install a plugin. You can also subscribe via RSS to receive updates directly in your email. Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
