Pers y Ramona, Magín (1803-1888)

Magín Pers y Ramona, sastre de oficio, nació el año 1803 en el municipio catalán de Villanueva y Geltrú (Barcelona). Criado en el seno de una familia burguesa, en 1821 emigró a Cuba donde consiguió prosperar económicamente. Durante su estancia en el país, creó un gabinete de lectura y publicó varios artículos de cariz moral y político en el periódico El eco del comercio bajo el pseudónimo de “Nuevo Fígaro”. Casi dos décadas más tarde, de nuevo en Barcelona, fundó una escuela de sastrería y dirigió la publicación de varios periódicos, como El agente de los Sastres (1846) o el Diario de Villanueva. Asimismo, fue miembro desde 1852 de la Academia de las Buenas Letras y de la Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País de Barcelona. Durante el bienio de 1855-1856 fue regidor y teniente alcalde de representación liberal en el Ayuntamiento de Barcelona siendo reelegido para el cargo durante 1870-1872.
El vilanovino cuenta con una producción amplia y heterogénea, en virtud de sus múltiples inquietudes, entre las que destacan la sastrería, la frenología y la lengua y la literatura. En el campo de la frenología, fue seguidor del también catalán Mariano Cubí y Soler —propagador de esta disciplina pseudocientífica en España y continuador de las tesis del médico austriaco F. J. Gall (1758-1828)—, fundó y coordinó la Revista Frenológica (1852-1854), publicó el Manual de frenología al alcance de todos (1849) y fue corresponsal del periódico La Phrénologie de París. Además, contribuyó en este ámbito con una llamativa teoría que consignaba la ubicación en el cerebro de un órgano denominado “nacionalidad o amor a la patria”.
Por otro lado, la creciente inquietud del autor por la lengua y la literatura catalanas lo condujo a publicar varios trabajos en esta línea, como El arte de hacer versos (1842) los Elementos de Gramática catalana-castellana (1847) y Bosquejo histórico de la lengua y literatura catalana (1850), que amplió siete años después en Historia de la lengua y literatura catalana (1857). Esta última, influenciada por las teorías de Masdéu y Bastero, supone un primer intento de individualización y sistematización de la literatura catalana que se había presentado hasta el momento como un apéndice de la provenzal.
Tras su muerte (1888), sus cinco hijas, de acuerdo con la voluntad del padre,donaron a la Biblioteca Museu Balaguer todas sus obras —algunas inéditas—, manuscritos, documentos y algunos objetos.

The browser
Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.
Advanced filters
In addition, all of our records contain several fields. To search for a specific work by date of publication, filter by copy, printer, place of printing, etc., use the Advanced Search.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

When any category of the BVFE loads, you will see an RSS icon. Clicking on it allows you to join the feed and receive updated information for the category you have subscribed to. Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
