Rotondo, Antonio (1808- 1879)
Vida
Antonio Rotondo, hijo de José Rotondo, fue un dentista, escritor, pintor e historiador español nacido en Madrid. Su padre era un dentista muy prestigioso que servía en la Casa Real española. En una ocasión y debido a una enfermedad, no pudo acudir a una operación prevista y fue su hijo, quien, sin apenas conocimientos específicos consiguió completarla con mucho éxito por lo que el rey vigente en ese momento, Fernando VII, le prometió una formación en los mejores centros de Europa, así como una plaza oficial de dentista cuando terminara sus estudios. Fue nombrado cirujano-dentista en 1830 y desempeñó la labor durante seis años. Trece años después obtuvo otro empleo bajo el reinado de Isabel II hasta su jubilación en 1866. Además de su labor como dentista, Rotondo es conocido por su pasión por la escritura y las bellas artes, así como por ser director del periódico nacional El Madrileño. Además, formaba parte de varias sociedades científicas y literarias tanto de origen español como extranjeras.
Se casó con una pintora conocida española, Teresa Nicolau, y tuvieron dos hijos. Ambos viajaron y vivieron en países extranjeros durante años, lo que les hizo ser conocedores de varios idiomas y ahondar en la investigación sobre contenidos históricos. Como recompensa a su dedicación intelectual a lo largo de toda su vida, Antonio Rotondo fue distinguido como Caballero de la Real Orden de Carlos III.
Fue autor de numerosas obras de distinta tipología, el Tratado completo de la extracción de los dientes, muelas, raigones y modo de limpiar la dentadura (1846), la Descripción de la gran basílica del Escorial (1861), La oración de la tarde. Novela escrita sobre el célebre drama del mismo título de D. Luis Mariano de Larra (1863), Escenas del Dos de Mayo. Drama popular en dos actos (1875), las Lecciones de cirugía dentaria (1877), en las que reflejó los numerosos conocimientos que poseía sobre artes muy diversas.
Su presencia en la BVFE se debe a la publicación del Diccionario fraseológico español-francés y francés español publicado en 1841. El autor, catedrático de idioma francés, considera necesaria la creación de un repertorio de esta tipología para ayudar a los traductores a corregir sus errores morfológicos o sintácticos cuando tengan que enfrentarse a frases o proverbios.

The browser
Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.
Advanced filters
In addition, all of our records contain several fields. To search for a specific work by date of publication, filter by copy, printer, place of printing, etc., use the Advanced Search.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

When any category of the BVFE loads, you will see an RSS icon. Clicking on it allows you to join the feed and receive updated information for the category you have subscribed to. If your browser does not allow you to subscribe to an RSS source, you may need to install a plugin. You can also subscribe via RSS to receive updates directly in your email. Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
