Villarreal, Federico (1850-1923)
Vida
Federico Villarreal Villarreal nació en Túcume, pequeño pueblo del departamento de Lambayeque (Perú) en la mitad del siglo XIX. Estudió para maestro de primeras letras, llegando a dirigir la escuela de su localidad natal. En 1877 ingresó en la Facultad de Ciencia de la Universidad Nacional San Marcos, en Lima. Se licenció en Matemáticas y, compaginando sus estudios con su compromiso con el ejército peruano en la Guerra del Pacífico (1879-1883) –en Perú, guerra contra Chile–, se doctoró en esa misma disciplina un año después. También se licenció como ingeniero civil (1884) e ingeniero de minas (1886). Dedicó toda su vida a la docencia y a la investigación, cultivando también el campo de las Letras. Falleció en Lima en 1923 siendo rector interino de la mencionada Universidad. En la actualidad, y desde 1963, existe en Perú una institución que consagra la memoria de nuestro autor: la Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal, con sede en Lima.
Dentro de su actividad humanística destaca la publicación de un trabajo sobre la lengua yunga, basado en la obra del criollo peruano Fernando de la Carrera Daza (principios del s. XVII-segunda mitad del s. XVII) de 1644. Asimismo, cabe mencionar sus intentos por la aclimatación del esperanto dentro del mundo académico peruano. En esta línea llegó a componer una gramática, una pronunciación y un diccionario esperanto-español, publicados como anexo para el público hispanohablante en la traducción que el propio Villarreal hizo de la obra fundacional de esa lengua, con original del polaco Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof (1859-1917), creador del esperanto, traducción también recogida en la BVFE. Además de esas dos grandes obras, redactó también multitud de ponencias y artículos en revistas especializadas, muchas de ellas fundadas por él.

- La lengua yunga o mochica, según el arte publicado en Lima en 1644 por el licenciado D. Fernando de la Carrera [...], Imprenta Peruana de E. Z. Casanova, Lima, 1921.
- Zamenhof, Ludwik Lejzer, Manual para aprender la lengua internacional esperanto inventada por el médico ruso Dr. L. Zamenhof. Contiene la pronunciación, gramática y doble vocabulario para el uso de los españoles, traducido por Federico Villareal, Imp. de la Escuela de Ingenieros, por J. Mesinas, Lima, 1901. Federico Villarreal, además de traducir la obra, incluye un anexo destinado a los hispanohablantes.

The browser
Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.
Advanced filters
In addition, all of our records contain several fields. To search for a specific work by date of publication, filter by copy, printer, place of printing, etc., use the Advanced Search.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

When any category of the BVFE loads, you will see an RSS icon. Clicking on it allows you to join the feed and receive updated information for the category you have subscribed to. If your browser does not allow you to subscribe to an RSS source, you may need to install a plugin. You can also subscribe via RSS to receive updates directly in your email. Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
