Cortázar, Daniel de (1844-1927)
Vida
Daniel Francisco de Paula Cortázar y Larrubia, hijo del notable matemático Juan Cortázar (1809-1873), nació en Madrid en 1844. Entre 1860 y 1864 estudió Ingeniería de Minas y, tras culminar la carrera, se inició en la de Derecho. En 1865 comenzó su actividad profesional como ingeniero, lo que le obligó a trasladarse a Teruel, Palencia y Jaén. Fue subdirector de las minas de Linares (Jaén) y de Almadén (Ciudad Real), donde también ejerció como profesor entre 1867 y 1869. Además, durante su estancia en Ciudad Real, colaboró como secretario en la constitución de un nuevo gobierno liberal en el ayuntamiento de Almadén alentado por la Revolución de 1868. Fue ingeniero consultor del Ministerio de Hacienda, consejero de Instrucción pública y comisionado de España en congresos internacionales. Mostró interés por otros campos científicos, a saber, la Geología, la Geografía e, incluso, la Lingüística, lo que le valió para ser nombrado, en 1870, miembro de la Comisión del Mapa Geológico, que dirigió entre 1902 y 1908. Así mismo ingresó en la Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales en 1884. Tomó posesión como académico de la Real Academia Española (silla c) en 1899. Este último puesto le fue concedido por sus propuestas de adiciones, enmiendas y supresiones al Diccionario, muchas de ellas incluidas en la decimotercera edición (1899). Paralelamente, continuó con su promoción como ingeniero de minas, llegando a ser inspector general. Perteneció a varias sociedades científicas españolas y extranjeras, como la Sociedad Geológica de Francia, la de Bélgica y la de Italia, o la Academia de Ciencias de Barcelona, y recibió varios premios y condecoraciones por su trayectoria profesional. Falleció en Madrid en 1927.
La mayor parte de su obra responde a sus intereses científicos: Geometría descriptiva. Problemas resueltos (Escuela Especial de Ingenieros de Minas, Madrid, 1860), Clasificación y colorido en los mapas geológicos (Imprenta y Fundición de M. Tello, Madrid, 1882) y varias reseñas y descripciones físicas de provincias españolas: Descripción física, geológica y agrológica de la provincia de Valladolid y Descripción física y geológica de la región norte de la provincia de Almería (Imprenta y Fundición de M. Tello, Madrid, 1875), entre otras. Su principal aportación a la Lingüística fue en cuestiones léxicas: además de su colaboración en las tareas lexicográficas de la Academia, debemos mencionar su discurso de ingreso en ella, Algunas ideas referentes a los neologismos, principalmente a los técnicos, donde reflexiona sobre el fenómeno de la neología y analiza en retrospectiva la postura de la Academia y de los hablantes con respecto a la innovación léxica, centrándose en el caso concreto de los tecnicismos por su estrecha relación con su experiencia profesional.

The browser
Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.
Advanced filters
In addition, all of our records contain several fields. To search for a specific work by date of publication, filter by copy, printer, place of printing, etc., use the Advanced Search.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

When any category of the BVFE loads, you will see an RSS icon. Clicking on it allows you to join the feed and receive updated information for the category you have subscribed to. Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
