Galindo y de Vera, León (1820-1889)
Vida
León Galindo y de Vera (también citado como León Galindo de Vera) nació en Barcelona en 1820. En su ciudad natal cursó todos sus estudios hasta licenciarse a los diecinueve años en Derecho. Trabajó en los juzgados de Granollers y de Lucena hasta obtener por oposición una plaza en el Ministerio de Gracia y Justicia con el número 1. Ocupó diversos destinos en varios lugares de España. Tenía bufete de abogado en Madrid en el que no siempre cobraba sus honorarios cuando los clientes no disponían de recursos. En 1863 era oficial de la Dirección general del registro de la propiedad, y fue elegido diputado al Congreso por el distrito de Morella (Castellón), aunque solamente por poco más de medio año, hasta las elecciones siguientes. Desde joven colaboró con artículos en la prensa, y llegó a hacerse cargo de la dirección literaria (hasta 1866) de El museo universal, la principal revista ilustrada de mediados del siglo XIX, heredera del Semanario pintoresco español. Entró a formar parte de la Real Academia Española (sillón N) el 21 de febrero de 1875 con el discurso titulado La autoridad de la Academia en materia de lenguaje. Por su proximidad al bando carlista fue desterrado ese mismo año. En 1881 estuvo entre los fundadores de la Unión Católica con el fin de unir los carlistas a la Restauración borbónica. Murió en Madrid el 12 de abril (día de su onomástica) de 1889 tras una larga enfermedad (asma) que arrastraba los últimos años de su vida.
Debido a su profesión, sus escritos mayoritariamente son de temática jurídica (entre otras obras, fue uno de los editores de la edición revisada y aumentada del famoso Diccionario razonado de legislación y jurisprudencia de Joaquín Escriche –1784-1847–, 4 vols., Imprenta de Eduardo Cuesta, Madrid, 1874-1876), aunque se acercó a cuestiones concernientes a la lengua. En este sentido hay que mencionar Progreso y vicisitudes del idioma castellano en nuestros cuerpos legales [...], obra que fue premiada por la Real Academia Española en 1863. En ella hace un recorrido histórico por nuestros códigos fijándose en las características de la lengua que se emplea en cada uno de los estudiados. Años más tarde, su discurso de ingreso en la Real Academia Española versó sobre La autoridad de la Academia en materia de lenguaje, en el que defiende el cometido de autoridad reguladora y normativa de la Institución para defender la lengua.

The browser
Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.
Advanced filters
In addition, all of our records contain several fields. To search for a specific work by date of publication, filter by copy, printer, place of printing, etc., use the Advanced Search.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

When any category of the BVFE loads, you will see an RSS icon. Clicking on it allows you to join the feed and receive updated information for the category you have subscribed to. If your browser does not allow you to subscribe to an RSS source, you may need to install a plugin. You can also subscribe via RSS to receive updates directly in your email. Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
