Lira Urquieta, Pedro (1900-1981)

Vida

Pedro Lira Urquieta es un jurista chileno que despunta, además, en el estudio de la historia y la filología, lo que justifica su incorporación como miembro de número a la Academia Chilena de la Historia (1949) y a la Academia Chilena de la Lengua (1948) -donde se desempeña como secretario perpetuo-, así como a las corporaciones de Colombia, México, Paraguay, Uruguay y la propia Real Academia Española en calidad de miembro correspondiente. Descendiente de una familia tradicionalmente relacionada con el mundo del derecho, cursa sus estudios sobre esta materia en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, donde se titula como abogado en 1926 y donde comienza su carrera como docente, que lo lleva hasta el decanato de la Facultad de Derecho; en 1934 pasa a trabajar a la Universidad de Chile, donde permanecerá hasta su jubilación en 1968, con la excepción de los años en que se encarga de la embajada de Chile ante la Santa Sede (1963-1965). Reconocido en el ámbito académico y jurídico de su país y con una extensa obra relacionada con las disciplinas de su interés, fallece tras una larga enfermedad en su ciudad natal en 1981.

Muy interesado, en su doble faceta de hombre de letras y jurista, por la figura de Andrés Bello, dedica a este autor una de sus obras fundamentales (Andrés Bello; México DF, 1948), en la que analiza la vida y la obra del intelectual de origen venezolano, a lo que se suman diversos trabajos sobre léxico que se pueden relacionar con su carácter de miembro de la Academia Chilena de la Lengua (Vocablos académicos y chilenismos, Estudios sobre vocabulario; Santiago de Chile, 1969 y 1973 respectivamente), así como trabajos dedicados a los estudios literarios (Sobre Quevedo y otros clásicos; Santiago de Chile, 1958).

The browser

The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical recordsLatest bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.

Several times a month

We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options

You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

Printing bibliographical records

All of the bibliographical recordsImprimir registro de la Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.

Printing the works

The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions

We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.

Submission of new URLs

Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website Refer a URL or make a suggestion will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
