Amunátegui Aldunate, Miguel Luis (1828-1888)

Miguel Luis Amunátegui Aldunate fue un humanista y político liberal chileno del siglo XIX, tío de Miguel Luis Amunátegui Reyes (1862-1949). Inició su formación en el domicilio familiar, que continuó, tras la muerte de su padre, en el Instituto Nacional a partir de 1840. Allí despuntó por sus facultades y trabó amistad con su maestro, Andrés Bello (1781-1865), quien había quedado impresionado por sus conocimientos de la lengua latina. Con 19 años, pese a no cumplir con el requisito de la edad mínima para el puesto, ocupó la plaza de profesor de Humanidades en el Instituto Nacional por sus méritos académicos. Desde 1852 fue profesor en la Universidad de Chile y, un año más tarde, fue nombrado jefe de instrucción pública del Ministerio de Justicia, Culto e Instrucción Pública, del que se ocuparía años más tarde (1876-1878). Fue, además, ministro del Interior y Relaciones Exteriores (1868-1870) y de Relaciones Exteriores y Colonización entre 1879 y 1880, y, nuevamente, entre 1887 y 1888. En 1875 fue nombrado miembro correspondiente de la Real Academia Española y propuesto como candidato a la presidencia de Chile. Durante su andadura como parlamentario (1864-1888), representó a varios departamentos: Caupolicán, Talca y Valparaíso, entre otros. Falleció en 1888, aquejado de una neumonía.
Los primeros trabajos de Amunátegui, elaborados en colaboración con su hermano Gregorio Víctor Amunátegui Aldunate (1830-1899), eran de carácter histórico, con los que obtuvo varios premios de la Universidad de Chile. Publicó numerosas obras históricas y políticas, tanto en monografías, como en prensa, la mayoría circunscritas a su Chile natal. Además, fue uno de los encargados de llevar a cabo la ardua empresa de recopilar la obra de Bello: Obras completas de don Andrés Bello. Edición hecha bajo la dirección del Consejo de Instrucción Pública en cumplimiento de la ley de 5 de septiembre de 1872 (15 vols., Pedro G. Ramírez y Barcelona, Santiago, 1881-1893). Poco antes de fallecer, vieron la luz las Acentuaciones viciosas, un trabajo sobre prosodia donde denuncia los usos incorrectos, apoyándose tanto en citas de autoridad como en la etimología de las voces. Son también de interés para la BVFE sus «Apuntaciones sobre algunas palabras de uso legal y forense de Chile», en diversas entregas publicadas en varias revistas chilenas entre 1886 y 1889, que forman parte de una obra inconclusa: Apuntaciones sobre algunas palabras usadas en Chile, especialmente en el lenguaje legal i forense. Centrándose en el caso concreto de los tecnicismos y con la Academia como principal fuente de referencia, elabora un vocabulario con largas definiciones acompañadas de otros comentarios lingüísticos con el propósito de favorecer el uso correcto de las voces restringidas al ámbito jurídico.

The browser

The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
