Tatcher Clark, de ascendencia presumiblemente estadounidense, nació en 1876. Más allá de este dato, no ha llegado otra información hasta nuestros días acerca de su vida. Gracias a los datos que aparecen en sus publicaciones podemos saber que, en torno al año de 1904, fue profesor de español y de francés en la Academia naval de los Estados Unidos y que, con anterioridad, habría formado parte de la Universidad de Harvard como profesor asistente de francés. Asimismo, Clark habría obtenido su doctorado en lingüística en Harvard de forma previa a su ingreso como profesor en la Academia naval. Posteriormente, en torno al año de 1922, Clark debió ser director del Departamento de francés del Ethical Culture School de la Universidad de Columbia, y profesor de francés del Teachers’ College de la misma universidad. Se desconoce la fecha y lugar de su fallecimiento.

Una de las obras más importantes relacionadas con el ámbito hispánico que conservamos de Thatcher Clark es una gramática centrada en la enseñanza de los verbos a los soldados de la Academia naval del rango de guardiamarina, titulada Verbos y notas gramaticales. Esta publicación, concebida junto al profesor de español Carlos Valerien Cusachs (1874-1934-¿?), se divide en quince secciones que abarcan aspectos como la definición de los «tiempos del verbo», «modos del verbo», «cuadro de las desinencias de los verbos», «del participio», etc. Por otro lado, encontramos entre las obras de Clark una gramática para la enseñanza del francés a los anglohablantes de los Estados Unidos, French course for Americans: French grammar and drill book for schools and colleges (World book Company, Yonkers-on-Hudson, Nueva York, 1922).

Several times a month

We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Printing bibliographical records

All of the bibliographical recordsImprimir registro de la Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.

Printing the works

The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions

We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.

Submission of new URLs

Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website Refer a URL or make a suggestion will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
