Aitor Arana Luzuriaga nació en Legazpi en 1963. Comenzó a escribir a los 17 años y fue uno de los impulsores de Hots, una revista local cultural de Legazpi. Entre 1983 y 1987 fue profesor de euskera. En 1987 ganó el Premio Bilintx de Narrativa, el primero de una larga serie. Ha publicado numerosos libros, la mayoría de ellos en euskera que van desde literatura infantil y juvenil, Loaren bidez (1990) o La reina dormida (2000) pasando por novela, Ipuin-entzuela (1999) o Bost Ahizpa (2003), teatro, ensayo, estudios lingüísticos sobre las variedades de euskera y libros de esperanto, así como traducciones en euskera, castellano y esperanto y diccionarios.
En 2002 publicó el Izabeibarko euskara hiztegia auspiciado por el Gobierno de Navarra totalmente en euskera del que se editará una versión traducida Diccionario castellano-vasco de Valdizarbe en 2009. Dicho diccionario surge de la necesidad de preservar la diversidad lingüística y cultural. Recoge la lengua de Valdizarbe hablada en doce pueblos de la zona hasta el siglo XIX. Había muy pocos documentos escritos en euskara valdizarbés, y estos eran, generalmente textos religiosos de los siglos XVIII y XIX por lo que el léxico se basa mayoritariamente en este ámbito. Casi todos los textos son traducciones del castellano que los curas hacían para sus sermones, por tanto, hay muchos castellanismos ya que el euskara del valle se fue perdiendo en favor del castellano. Sin embargo, Arana se dedicó a recopilar las voces, primero en euskara y luego en castellano en 2002 y 2009 respectivamente. El autor señala aspectos problemáticos con los que se ha encontrado tales como la traducción de voces procedentes de la botánica, la toponimia o el euskara residual. De hecho, cuando tiene dudas en algunas traducciones añade el signo de interrogación. Incluye la lista de las fuentes utilizadas y aunque algunos diccionarios enciclopédicos señalan que la lengua actual de Valdizarbe es el castellano puesto que el euskara desapareció de la zona en el siglo XIX, Arana ha comprobado al recopilar las voces para su diccionario que el valdizarbés no corre peligro de extinción. Tras el diccionario, el autor incluye un listado de «hitos históricos» desde 1215, generalmente referidos a personas y lugares de la zona recogidos en diversos documentos que llegan hasta 2009, año en el que, como el propio Arana indica, publica el primer diccionario castellano-vasco de Valdizarbe dirigido a habitantes del lugar no vascófonos interesados en la lengua autóctona de la zona.

The browser
Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.
Advanced filters
In addition, all of our records contain several fields. To search for a specific work by date of publication, filter by copy, printer, place of printing, etc., use the Advanced Search.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

When any category of the BVFE loads, you will see an RSS icon. Clicking on it allows you to join the feed and receive updated information for the category you have subscribed to. Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
