Abella, Juan Manuel (entre 1820 y post 1837)

Vida

Poco o nada se sabe de este autor, supuestamente traductor o profesor de francés afincado en Madrid. A él le debemos la traducción del francés del Manual de química recreativa cuyo autor fue Friedrich Christian Accum (1769-1838), químico nacido en Alemania, aunque pasó la mayor parte de su vida en Londres.

La obra de Accum, cuyo título original es Chemical Amusement, A Series of Curious and Instructive Experiments in Chemistry Which Are Easily Performed and Unattended by Dangers, Londres 1817 (2ª edición 1817, 3ª ed. 1818, 4ª reimpresión 1819), fue traducida al francés por V. Riffault bajo el título Manuel de Chimie Amusante; ou nouvelles récréations chimiques, contenant une suite d’expériences d’une exécution facile et sans danger, ainsi qu’un grand nombre de faits curieux et instructifs, París 1827 (2ª edición 1829, sexta y última reimpresión 1854).

Nuestro autor tradujo la obra junto con el vocabulario de términos de la materia. Del libro se hicieron tres ediciones: la primera del año 1831 y la segunda, de 1837, ambas en la imprenta de Polo y Monge, Zaragoza. La tercera es del año 1862 impresa en Madrid en la librería de José Cuesta. El «Vocabulario» ocupa las páginas 363 hasta la 418 en todas las ediciones. Su estructura es simple, pues se trata de una colección de voces de la materia acompañadas de una breve explicación, más o menos extensa y tendente a lo enciclopédico, según los casos, en la que se habla de lo nombrado, no del significado del término en cuestión, lo cual no disminuye el interés del repertorio para la historia del léxico de la materia. Pese a tratarse de una traducción, no se ofrecen los equivalentes en otras lenguas, ni siquiera de aquella de la que se parte.

The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical recordsLatest bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.

Several times a month

We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Printing bibliographical records

All of the bibliographical recordsImprimir registro de la Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.

Printing the works

The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions

We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.

Submission of new URLs

Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website Refer a URL or make a suggestion will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
