Alemany y Bolufer, José (1866-1934)

Vida

José Alemany y Bolufer nació en la población valenciana de Cullera en 1866, de padres de escasos recursos económicos que tuvieron diez hijos, el segundo de los cuales era José, aunque antes había nacido otro que también llevó el nombre de José y que murió a los cinco meses. Realizó los primeros estudios en su localidad natal. A los doce años fue becado para estudiar en el seminario de Valencia, pero abandonó antes de que finalizase su primer curso, y regresó para ayudar a su padre en las labores del campo, consiguiendo algo de dinero por las noches dando clases a los niños del barrio. Cinco años más tarde comenzó a estudiar el bachillerato en Sueca, adonde iba a pie todos los días, terminándolo en 1886. Estudió Filosofía y Letras en la Universidad de Barcelona al tiempo que realizaba el servicio militar. En 1891 ganó la cátedra de Lengua Griega en la Universidad de Granada, tras recurrir un concurso anterior al que también se había presentado el granadino Ángel Ganivet (1865-1898), a quien se la dieron pese a sus escasos conocimientos en la materia. En 1899 gana la cátedra de griego de la Universidad Central (Madrid). Diez años después ingresó en la Real Academia Española, y en 1925 en la de la Historia. Murió en Madrid en 1934.

Alemany tradujo varias obras del sánscrito y del griego, y fue autor de escritos de carácter histórico, editor de textos medievales españoles, y a él se debe también una gramática griega publicada póstumamente. Si hemos de recordarlo en la filología española es por su Estudio elemental de gramática histórica (1902) que tuvo varias ediciones, por haber dirigido el Diccionario de la lengua española (1917) que gozó de numerosísimas ediciones y fue punto de arranque de una copiosa producción editorial, así como por el Tratado de la formación de palabras en la lengua castellana (1920), además de haber sido corrector casi único de la 14.ª edición del diccionario académico (1914) y de la 15.ª (1925), y de revisar un tercio de las definiciones de la 16.ª (1936).

The browser

Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.

The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical recordsLatest bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.

Several times a month

We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Printing bibliographical records

All of the bibliographical recordsImprimir registro de la Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.

Printing the works

The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions

We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.

Submission of new URLs

Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website Refer a URL or make a suggestion will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
