Capdevila, Arturo (1889-1967)
Vida
Arturo Capdevila, jurista, profesor, historiador y escritor argentino, nació en 1889 en Córdoba, ciudad situada en la Región Centro de Argentina. Muy implicado en la vida intelectual de su país, desempeñó algunos cargos públicos: miembro de la Academia Argentina de Letras y de la Academia Nacional de la Historia. Como docente en la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, fue profesor de Sociología, y de Literatura Hispanoamericana en la Universidad de La Plata. Recibió el Premio Nacional de Literatura en tres ocasiones (1920, 1923 y 1931). Murió en 1967, en Argentina, a los 78 años.
Capdevila escribió ensayos en los que los temas predominantes son la filosofía de la salud y la solución de enfermedades. Como poeta y dramaturgo, escribe obras como Jardines solos (1911), El tiempo que se fue (1926), El libro del bosque (1948) o Cuando el vals y los lanceros (1937).
Es autor de Babel y el castellano (1928), un tratado idiomático y lingüístico, publicado primero en las columnas del periódico La Prensa de Buenos Aires (1925), por el que fue distinguido con el Premio Nacional de Literatura en 1931. Esta obra aborda la compleja relación entre la diversidad de lenguas y la singularidad del español. Capdevila analiza extensa y profundamente la lengua española y su lugar en el contexto global de las lenguas. Resalta su belleza, diversidad y riqueza. En el tratado también se profundiza en cuestiones como la influencia de la lengua en la identidad nacional y la forma en que el castellano ha evolucionado a lo largo de los siglos. Presentó tres tipos de discursos: uno en el que aboga por la unidad del idioma, centrado en Castilla; otro en el que se opone al uso del «voseo» en Argentina; y, por último, reflexiones sobre los esfuerzos renovados en ese momento para promover una gestión autónoma de la identidad y la diversidad lingüística en Argentina. Además, se incluyen observaciones elogiosas sobre el uso del español por parte de la comunidad sefardí, destacando su fidelidad lingüística. Esta obra fue muy influyente en la historia de los debates sobre la lengua en Argentina.

The browser
Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.
Advanced filters
In addition, all of our records contain several fields. To search for a specific work by date of publication, filter by copy, printer, place of printing, etc., use the Advanced Search.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

When any category of the BVFE loads, you will see an RSS icon. Clicking on it allows you to join the feed and receive updated information for the category you have subscribed to. If your browser does not allow you to subscribe to an RSS source, you may need to install a plugin. You can also subscribe via RSS to receive updates directly in your email. Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
