Caravia, Antonio T. (1809-1873)

Antonio Teodoro Caravia Pérez fue un agrimensor uruguayo del siglo XIX. La biografía de este autor presenta más interrogantes que certezas, aunque se pueden trazar las líneas maestras que la perfilan. Vio la luz en Montevideo, en 1809, justo después del intento británico de invasión de un territorio que aún, y por pocos años, se encontraba inserto en el Virreinato español del Río de la Plata. Creció en el seno de una familia criolla, acomodada e ilustrada, de ascendencia asturiana, que pudo procurar a todos sus vástagos una esmerada educación. Se desconoce dónde se formó el joven Antonio, aunque parece que estudio en los mejores colegios montevideanos y se le presupone formación universitaria, quizás, cursada en alguna institución argentina. A partir de aquí, y al margen de los hitos que supuso la publicación de sus diferentes obras, la vida de nuestro protagonista es un completo enigma: solo se sabe que destacó como teórico de la agricultura y que, por este motivo, y tras un notorio reconocimiento en muchos países de Hispanoamérica, recibió un prestigioso galardón en la argentina Universidad de Córdoba (1872). Antonio T. Caravia se suicidó –sin que las causas se hayan llegado a esclarecer– en 1873, con 64 años, en su ciudad natal.
La labor filológica de Caravia fue muy escasa, y derivó de su trabajo como agrimensor. En este sentido, el último volumen de su Curso de agricultura incluyó, en forma de glosario, una lista de los términos empleados a lo largo de los tomos anteriores con su correspondiente definición.

The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical recordsLatest bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.

Several times a month

We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Printing bibliographical records

All of the bibliographical recordsImprimir registro de la Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.

Printing the works

The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions

We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.

Submission of new URLs

Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website Refer a URL or make a suggestion will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
