Commelerán y Gómez, Francisco Andrés (1848-1919)
Vida
Francisco Andrés Commelerán y Gómez nació en Zaragoza en 1848, se licenció en Filosofía y Letras en la universidad de dicha ciudad, y más tarde en Derecho, en Madrid, mientras ocupaba el puesto de catedrático de Lengua Latina y Española en el Instituto Cisneros de la capital, cátedra en la que permaneció hasta 1918, año en el que se jubiló. En 1895, tras el fallecimiento de su predecesor, ocupó el cargo de director de dicho Instituto. Fue asimismo consejero de Instrucción Pública y senador por las provincias de Segovia (en las legislaturas de 1899-1900, 1900) y Cuenca (1907-1908, 1908-1909, 1909-1910), y más tarde, por la Real Academia Española (1911, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918, 1919-1920), en la que había ingresado el 25 de mayo de 1890. Dentro de la Corporación, Commelerán perteneció la Comisión de Gramática desde 1899 y fue censor perpetuo desde 1903. Fue colaborador en varios periódicos, y participó en la polémica suscitada por Antonio de Valbuena (1844-1929), tras la publicación de la 12ª (1884) edición del diccionario académico, en cuya defensa escribió varios artículos.
Es autor de varias obras lingüísticas, de carácter didáctico y divulgativo, destinadas principalmente a su uso en el ámbito educativo: una Gramática de la lengua castellana (1881), un Diccionario clásico-etimológico latino-español (Madrid, 1886), una Gramática elemental de la lengua castellana (1883) y una Gramática comparada de las lenguas castellana y latina (1889). Es autor también de una Crestomatía latina de autores sagrados y profanos (Madrid, 1888) y del ensayo D. Pedro Calderón de la Barca. Príncipe de los ingenios españoles (Madrid, 1881).

The browser
Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.
Advanced filters
In addition, all of our records contain several fields. To search for a specific work by date of publication, filter by copy, printer, place of printing, etc., use the Advanced Search.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

When any category of the BVFE loads, you will see an RSS icon. Clicking on it allows you to join the feed and receive updated information for the category you have subscribed to. If your browser does not allow you to subscribe to an RSS source, you may need to install a plugin. You can also subscribe via RSS to receive updates directly in your email. Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
