No conservamos apenas datos de la vida de Samuel Garner aparte de los reflejados en sus publicaciones de finales del siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX. Samuel Garner fue un filólogo románico, profesor de lenguas romances en la Academia Naval de los Estados Unidos en torno al año de 1900 y, gracias a sus publicaciones, podemos deducir que estaba especializado en francés y español.
Las primeras publicaciones de Garner estuvieron dedicadas a la lengua francesa, concretamente al subjuntivo, «The So-Called Subjonctif Dubitatif, je ne sache pas, in the Principal Clause» (The American Journal of Philology, vol. 1, nº 2, 1880, págs. 197-202) y «Je ne Sache pas, again» (The American Journal of Philology, vol. 2, nº 6, 1881, págs. 213-218). Más adelante, Garner dio a la luz entre 1887-1889 una serie de artículos sobre el gerundio de las lenguas romances, bajo el título de «The Gerundial Construction in the Romanic Languages». Samuel Garner también reseñó obras relacionadas con la lingüística y publicó ediciones de las obras de Víctor Hugo (1802-1885), Ruy Blas (Boston, D.C. Heath & Co., 1894); y de Manuel Bretón de los Herreros (1796-1873), ¿Quién es ella?, a la que añadió un vocabulario español-inglés. En 1901, Samuel Garner publicó su gramática del español, A Spanish grammar for the use of colleges and schools. El volumen se centra en la gramática y la sintaxis necesarias para la correcta lectura del español a través de once lecciones, e incluye ejercicios prácticos de traducción y de pronunciación, así como una serie de textos de lectura. Se completa con dos vocabularios inglés-español y español-inglés. Una de las últimas obras que se conocen de Garner es otra gramática del español, publicada diez años después de la primera, bajo el título de Essentials of Spanish Grammar. En este nuevo volumen, Garner presenta los aspectos gramaticales de forma simplificada, aunque distribuidos en un mayor número de lecciones –un total de cuarenta y nueve–, y completa su gramática de nuevo con sendos vocabularios en español y en inglés.

New bibliographical records
The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.
Several times a month
We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Sharing options
You can send any BVFE entry to a friend, partner, researcher or any person interested in history of the Spanish language. To do so, press the button "Recommend" found under each file and send the entry to an email address.

We have also included a sidebar on the left of the screen which can be used to share on social media, select the BVFE as a favourite in your web browser, etc. On tablets and phones the share option will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Printing bibliographical records
All of the bibliographical records that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.
Printing the works
The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions
We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.
Submission of new URLs
Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
